Therapies
At Brownback & Associates, our therapists are trained in a wide range of evidence-based and integrative approaches to meet the unique needs of each individual. We provide care within an affirming, trauma-informed environment that honors both healing and personal growth.
Although our office is located in Allentown, Pennsylvania, our comprehensive therapeutic services attract clients from Emmaus, Bethlehem, Easton, and throughout the greater Lehigh Valley, as well as beyond.
Below is an overview of the therapeutic approaches we offer.
Therapeutic Approaches
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
An evidence-based approach that integrates mindfulness and emotional acceptance. Clients clarify personal values, set meaningful goals, and take effective action aligned with those values. Symptom reduction occurs naturally as a result of this process rather than as its primary focus.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Commonly used in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Clients gradually confront anxiety-provoking thoughts, images, objects, or situations (exposure) while learning—under therapeutic guidance—to refrain from compulsive behaviors (response prevention). Over time, clients retrain the brain to no longer perceive triggers as threats.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) / Tapping
A technique designed to release difficult emotions by stimulating acupressure points while focusing on distressing or traumatic experiences.
Solution-Focused Therapy
A brief, goal-oriented approach that emphasizes strengths, solutions, and measurable progress toward desired behavioral change.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Especially helpful for individuals who experience emotions intensely. DBT focuses on balancing acceptance and change, helping clients develop skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
A structured, short-term therapy that helps improve mood and functioning by identifying and restructuring unhelpful thought patterns and replacing ineffective behaviors with healthier ones. CBT often includes between-session practice to reinforce skills and promote long-term self-management.
Psychodynamic Therapy
An insight-oriented approach that explores how past experiences and present relationships—including the therapeutic relationship—shape current patterns of behavior and emotional response.
Biofeedback & Neurofeedback Services
Biofeedback Therapy (BFB)
Uses electronic instruments to help clients gain awareness of physiological processes such as muscle tension, heart rate, and breathing, with the goal of learning voluntary control over these systems.
Neurofeedback (NFB)
A specialized form of biofeedback that measures brainwave activity and provides auditory and/or visual feedback, helping individuals learn self-regulation of brain function.
Quantitative EEG (qEEG)
A brain-mapping assessment used to identify patterns of brain activity that may guide individualized treatment planning.
Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback (HRV)
Helps synchronize breathing and heart rate to improve nervous system regulation. Increased heart rate variability is associated with improved resilience, stress recovery, and overall health.
Alternative & Complementary Approaches
In addition to traditional therapy, Brownback & Associates offers alternative approaches to support individuals experiencing anxiety, OCD, depression, insomnia, and chronic pain, using clinically supported devices.
Apollo Neuro
A wearable device that uses gentle, silent vibrations to signal safety to the nervous system, helping interrupt the stress-based “fight or flight” response. Clients often report improved focus, better sleep, and reduced anxiety.
Alpha-Stim AID
Uses cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) to help restore the body’s natural balance in a safe, non-invasive manner. Benefits may extend beyond treatment sessions, with minimal to no side effects compared to many medications.
Alpha-Stim Microcurrent Electrical Therapy (Alpha-Stim M)
A low-level electrical therapy used for pain management. Treatments are brief, cumulative, and often provide longer-lasting relief than traditional TENS units, with little to no side effects.
BioAcoustical Utilization Device (BAUD)
Uses specific sound frequencies to stimulate neuroplasticity and support regulation within the limbic system, helping the brain shift away from maladaptive stress patterns.
TouchPoints
A pair of wearable devices that deliver alternating vibrations to help calm the nervous system. Clients report reduced anxiety and improved sleep quality.
